U - Loving Christ must be Taught!
Episode 10 of 30
Loving Christ must be taught. It doesn't just happen by mistake. Someone has to show another how to love Christ. In the same way, Jesus showed his disciples how to love God. Peter was a fisherman; he was about his own business as usual. Even after being with Jesus for three years, he still returned to his old habit of selling fish. So many of us, even though we claim we love Jesus, are still persuaded one way or the other to go back to our old ways... we go back to sell fish that Jesus once told us to leave. We sell our time and gifts for the things of the world.
But you know what? After Jesus was resurrected, He returned to Peter and the other disciples and still showed them what loving him entails. He taught the people and even told them all the things he had spoken to them, and the things he would love to say to them are much and which they will not remember; therefore, he will send the HOLY SPIRIT.
The Holy Spirit is the teacher I am referring to. HE teaches and guides, and he can lead us to who will show us how to love Christ. But that doesn't negate that we will face specific challenges and temptations even in loving Jesus. As much as I was finding myself in the dual religion, the love of Christ was still within me, and it propelled me not to give up on finding how I could love God. It was a battle!
I will end with a hymn that I love so much, written by George Bennard.
On a hill far away stood an old, rugged Cross
The emblem of suffering and shame
And I love that old Cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain
(Chorus)
So I'll cherish the old rugged Cross
Till my trophies, at last, I lay down
I will cling to the old, rugged Cross
And exchange it someday for a crown
Confusion must stop! The journey continues in Episode 11
