M - Who is Deborah (Dorah) Ifenowo?

 Episode 1 of 30

Since I am approaching 30 so quickly, I thought I should start by writing a bit about myself.

Full name, Deborah Ifenowo. I was in grade 10 or 11 when everyone in my class was giving themselves a nickname. When it got to my turn, I was instantly given "Debby" as a nickname. I remember rejecting that nickname because it seemed too common to me.

I took my pen and wrote out my name in bold (D E B O R A H), with the idea that I could derive a nickname without having to add any letters that are not included in Deborah. After scrapping out so many papers, I came up with D O R A H by taking away (EB) from my name. By this time, I didn't even realize there was an American show called "DORA THE EXPLORER". What a coincidence lol...

In addition, my grandma used to call me Funlola (Funmilola) before she passed away. I love being called that name so much. Also, here's what the Yoruba calls "Oriki" (Eulogy), meaning praise poetry. Unfortunately, my parent didn't give me any but because I love to have one, my mom gave me the liberty to give myself any "Oriki" that I wanted.

I call myself "Arike", which means to be cared for or pampered on sight. My Fiancé loves to call me this name, usually when he wants to get my attention or probably when I am pissed off...lol

Anyway, let's take a pause! The short intro to my name is okay for this episode...
